Vejer is located in the South East of the Province of Cádiz and is renowned as a favourite holiday destination with the Spanish due to its charm and unspoilt beaches stretching for miles along this diverse coastline. It can be dated back to 1500 B.C., when the Phoenicians settled here, establishing this coastline as one of the major tuna fishing areas. Half way through the 13th Century the town became part of the estate of Alonso Perez de Guzman, in order to protect the population he built a castle with walls and towers and in the centre he built the largest of the towers, today known as the Tower of Guzman. During the 14th & 15th century, the Tower became the axis around which, the new town was formed. It is currently the heart of the town and was renovated at the end of the 18th Century.
